Get everyone on the same page
For a board game, put the rules somewhere everyone can see. For an online session, make sure everyone uses the same game and understands how its rooms work. Friend Ludo’s guides explain the basics; this website does not currently include a playable game.
Choose the pace together
Leave enough time for a full round instead of promising a fixed match length. A game can take longer when tokens are repeatedly captured. If someone has to leave early, agree beforehand whether you will pause or start a fresh round later.
Make the first round welcoming
Help a new player identify legal moves, but let them choose. Avoid changing a house rule halfway through the match. A short practice round takes the pressure off and gives everyone a chance to ask questions.
Keep the rematch optional
A close finish is a good reason to offer another round, not a reason to pressure someone into staying. Take a break when the game stops being fun. The aim is to finish with a story to laugh about together.
