Agree on your house rules before the first roll.
Pick a colour and place four tokens in its starting yard. Set your turn order, identify the safe squares and make sure everyone knows the entry rule.
A six commonly brings a token into play. On each turn, use your roll to move one eligible token. With more tokens on the track, you have more decisions to make.
Travel around the board and into your coloured home lane. Most versions require an exact roll to finish. The first player to bring all four tokens home wins.
The dice decide your options. You decide what to do with them. Pause before moving, compare your choices and give every token a purpose.
